Child custody cases can be very exhausting, both mentally and financially. There is nothing more precious than your child(ren). When you are involved in litigation regarding your child it’s important to understand that it’s a process. The sooner you master the process the sooner you can be done with the process.
That is what most people fail to consider. Instead, most people focus exclusively on the good, the bad and the ugly of the case in hopes that the Judge will see it their way. Everyone does that. The problem is that the judge hears the same story over and over everyday just different players. That is why the conventional wisdom of arguing all the good and bad isn’t the best approach. Sure, it’s an approach, but not the most effective and not the best.
Here are 3 tips you can use for the custody case.
1. Have a plan. It’s not enough to say you want custody. Know why you want custody. Have specifics. Make it easy for the judge to find for you. Judges are taxed with over 1000 cases each. Make yours stand out and easy by having a plan.
2. Focus on the child. Instead of focusing on why the other parent is so bad focus on what meets the child’s needs. Judges rarely see people focusing on the child, but instead focus on their own wants and needs when it comes to custody.
3. Create your case. Custody “wins” don’t just happen. You have to create the evidence that you need. Don’t be caught just going with the flow and taking whatever comes your way. Instead, you have so much control over the evidence and you need to control as much as you can.
