Trials Happen

Contrary to popular opinion very few cases make it to an actual trial. When it does it’s important to be prepared. A trials involve complexities that are specific to each case. By the time you’ve reached the trial phase you should understand that many hours of preparation already occurred. There are 3 main points for you to make sure are addressed for your trial.

  1. Know your theme: You need to tell the court a story. That story will be the foundation for the relief you want. Each side has their own story and like with most things in life, there are always two sides. I’ve seen countless cases lost because the attorney didn’t have a good grasp of the overall theme. Trial isn’t the time to spray and pray.
  2. Review your documents: the documents help you tell the story. As such, you need to make sure that you’ve reviewed the documents that will be introduced during trial. The documents from both your side an the other side. This will help you prepare and keep important facts and dates correct.
  3. What relief do you want? You need to know what you are asking for. Don’t go in without a specific agenda. Make sure you and your attorney have prioritized your requests. What are the things you absolutely need to win. What are the things that you can give up? What are the things that you aare so so about? Knowing what you are asking for will help you settle points 1 and 2 above.
