Marriage Equality and LGBTQ+ Rights in Family Law

Marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights in family law is a hot topic and an important issue in New Mexico and around the country. At Justice Legal Group, we are committed to protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and families and ensuring that they receive the same legal protections and benefits as any other family.

In 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that the Constitution guarantees the right to marriage for same-sex couples. This historic decision legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states and made it clear that LGBTQ+ individuals have the same fundamental right to marry as anyone else.

However, despite this progress, LGBTQ+ individuals and families can still face discrimination and challenges when it comes to family law issues. For example, same-sex couples may face difficulties when it comes to adoption, surrogacy, and other assisted reproduction issues. In some cases, LGBTQ+ individuals may also face discrimination when it comes to issues such as child custody, parenting time, and alimony/spousal support.

At Justice Legal Group, we are dedicated to fighting for the rights of all people individuals and families and ensuring that they receive fair and equal treatment under the law.
